August 2023 Meeting Recap

A well-attended meeting with lots of items on the tables we also did an IPMS USA Nat’s recap and talked about judging for the upcoming show.

We will need judges for the Sept show, so Kerry will give us a primer on judging tonight.

IPMS Canada News:  Kerry is retiring, looking for a new Member Club Liason.

tables are almost sold out – 71 out of 78 tables. 
Sponsorships are doing well but We still need more award sponsors though – $50 each.  Raffle table needs more stuff. 
Fanshawe is confirmed – 15000 sq ft gym.
Judges – 80 tables – Adam will be doing a layout plan
IPMS Hamilton table risers still uncertain
No “Display Only” area – you can put a note on your model though.

Adam – the college has a “last minute” right to cancel the venue at the last minute.  Alternative is to cancel the show.

On The Tables:
Stuart – two books.  F14 Superdetailing Book and Shattered Sword, on the battle of Midway (Steve Zammit borrowed it)
Dave Durette – 1/72 Revell Space Shuttle
Frank – 1/35 panzer IV and flamethrower and some other tiny tank talked too fast!
Mike Hill – 1/72 Airfix Chipmunk and 1/48 P51K 747 built by his wife 30 years ago!
Peter Fay – Max Factory Dobrum 1/72
Anthony Goodman – 1/72 Wave VF4 Lightning from Macross – award winning build.

Presentation on the US Nationals and Judging by Kerry Traynor:

Judges start with the assumption that the model is perfect, then they start taking off for issues.  They only issue three awards per category.  If you don’t get one of those, you get nothing.  Some don’t like that as they don’t know why their build didn’t place. 

New issues for the rules guys – resin models, “out of the box” definition (have to provide the instructions).

Most common issue – alignment issues.  Wings, wheels, armament, etc.

Contest Rules:

Frank discussed the revised contest rules for our show, based on those established by IPMS Canada, Torcan, etc.  The document will be available on the club website as a pdf.
