Okay, so it's the new year, and that means it's one year build time again. Last year, I did a kit bash of a 1/48
Hobbycraft F-19 into a 1/72 Macross-era strike plane, the
A-55E Razorback. I wanted to do something a little bit creative again this year, and I got to thinking.
Of course, those who
know me know that I am a Sci-Fi (primarily anime) fan. I am also a plane buff, and for some reason, I've been suffering
from what I call 'Luft Lust' for the past little while. This is basically a desire to build weird, experimental, project
or little-known WWII Luftwaffe aircraft. Stuff like you'd see on the exceptionally cool
Luft '46 website. To this end, I went out and bought a bunch of Luftwaffe kits off of Eric's estate. Not many project
planes in there, but there were a lot of old, interesting kits.
Then inspiration hit me. I could combine my love
of Sci-Fi and my love of Luft '46 planes and kitbash a fictional Luftwaffe project craft. The problem was finding the
source material (kit wise, the technical info is in my noggin). Well, in the kits I bought I have the old Heller Natter/Fi-103
Reichenberg IV kit, and the ex-FROG Blitz that comes with a V1. That means I've got two V1's!
Thus was
formed my idea for a one year build. I am going to build a piloted V1 twin! On one side (the left), I'll have
the piloted half. This will be the Fi-103 from Heller. On the right side, I'll have the V1 from the Blitz kit.
Into the Blitz's V1 I'll drill some ports for cannons, or maybe just put in the spare cowl guns from my brother's Academy
Bf-109. I'll also see about incorporating the 109's underwing cannons.
The end result will be a BV-ish looking
semi-asymmetrical aircraft that would be cheap to make and easy (?) to fly. However, to take such a plane on fighter
missions would be suicidal, so it will be an attack plane. It will be a ground-attack equivalent to the He-162 Salamander,
hence the name 'Volksangriffer' - people's attacker.
Will it work? Who knows, but I've got two bottles of glue
and a new pack of milliput to throw at it. I'll keep you informed, and post pictures when it's done!
