Larry hanging out with an SBD-3 under restoration at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo.

One of the best aircraft modelers out there, Larry's modeling specialty is US Navy aircraft, especially Grumman products in 1/48 scale.  Over the years, his models have won an impressive number of trophies, and his big 1/32 Tomcat is the stuff of legend.

Larry's latest work is the new Hasegawa 1/48 F4U-5N Corsair.  Using an Aires engine and cockpit as the basis, Larry added loads of detail to build Guy "Lucky Pierre" Bordelon's machine, the only US Navy ace from the Korean War.

Tamiya's 1/48 F4F-4 Wildcat received a new cockpit, wheel well, and detailed engine (notice the Pratt & Whitney on the ignition harness).  The plane is in the markings of Stanley "Swede" Vejtasa, VF-10, USS Enterprise.  During the Battle of Santa Cruz in October 1942, Vejtasa shot down six Japanese planes in a single sortie.

Here is one of Larry's many 1/48 scale F6F-5 Hellcats.  This Hasegawa example wears a rare example of Navy nose art: "Death and Destruction," from VF-83 on board the USS Essex in the summer of 1945.

Not all of Larry's models have propellers.  This Hasegawa 1/48 scale F-4B was completed in the markings of a Vietnam-era MiG killer from VF-51 aboard the USS Coral Sea.

Larry built this Tamiya 1/32 scale F-14A Tomcat back in the dark ages (the 1980s), in the era before resin and photetched detail sets were commonplace.  Waldron placards and a lot of scratchbuilding replaced the instrument panel decals in this kit, and helped it to win 1st place in the 1/32 scale aircraft category at the IPMS Nationals in Indianapolis.  VF-21 CAG markings and vacuformed FOD guards help to complete this magnificent model, which many of you might remember from IPMS USA advertisements.

And now for something completely different: Larry has a soft spot for the Alien films, and has several resin figures of the baddies from those movies.  This is an Alien warrior from Aliens, produced by Horizon.

Here is another chest-bursting monstrosity, this time Horizon's Dog-Burster from Alien3.
