Every so often a really elegant aftermarket product comes along, one of those items that you wonder how you managed without
for all of these years.
LionMarc's preformed 1/35 scale Sherman skids fall into that category. One of the more distinctive features of VVSS suspension
Sherman-related vehicles is the skid that keeps the tracks from hitting the top of the suspension unit. In real life,
these are metal strips bent into a rather complex shape. The plastic pieces included in kit volutes inevitably
look rather clunky; in some (Tamiya and Italeri, for instance), the skids are moulded as part of the volutes, and there is
a nasty seam running through the centre of them that is virtually impossible to deal with satisfactorily. While some
photoetched sets include brass strips that are supposed to be formed to the correct shape, the prospect of bending even one
of these to look right is rather daunting. To make six matching skids would be a virtual impossibility.
Enter LionMarc's remarkable product. In this package you get six perfectly formed skids with bolt heads in place.
Attaching them is a simple matter of either removing the moulded on skids or simply substituting the metal skids for the plastic
pieces. Either way, the end result is far superior and the cleanup is much simpler. A superior look for much less
effort; what more could one ask for? Highly recommended as basically an essential accessory for any 1/35 scale VVSS
Sherman or variant. LionMarc also offers a set of VVSS Sherman skids with brass bolts that go on the bottom of the VVSS
units as well; this is item LM60005.
