FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions of the AFV Painting Techniques
Author: Mig Jimenez
Andrea Press, 2005

Mig Jimenez has written a fabulous book. This
book covers many topics and answers questions that I have not even asked yet. There
are too many techniques in this book to discuss in a short review, so I will just cover one that I will try myself. The technique is to add texture to the sides of the turrets and chassis.
“When a model is purchased the plastic is completely flat and to my knowledge no vehicle that was produced for
war has ever come of the assembly line has ever been smooth. First is to use
a drill with a round end bit. Make short and small marks in the side of the surface
of the plastic. Next is to use Tamiya’s Basic Putty and to coat the surface
with a light coat of the putty. Once the putty has dried paint over it with some
plastic cement. Once this has dried lightly sand this area. Once this side is primed check the untouched side and the difference will be obvious.”
I think
that once people have had a chance to look at this book, they will agree that Mig Jimenez has given answers to questions that
many have asked but few have gotten answers on. Although the purchase price might
seem high, I think that after a few of these techniques have been used it will more than pay for itself and will go beyond. Thank you Mr. Jimenez and I wait the next book.
