Whilst nosing around my local hobby shop the other day I spied this little gem. I'm not really a WWII fan, but it looked like
it might provide a nice break from heavy armour of the 1980s. Upon opening the box I was struck by two things the
fine detail of the kit parts and the smell of the mould release ! The first step was a warm soapy bath for both sprues.
Construction begins with the recoil / recuperator system which resides in the cradle underneath the cannon and breech
(which are added next). Step four begins the carriage build up. There are no less than 12 parts comprising the axle
assembly to which wheels, trails (legs) and the cannon mount. Trails are attached and detailed in step 5. Several tiny parts
are involved here no sneezing recommended. It turns out to be a decent sized model. The assembled barrel is 6 3/4
inches long and each trail is a smidge over four inches. Though not as big as a Long Tom, it will make an impressive display
model in the firing or travelling position. Pitfalls of the kit are poor tyre tread detail and a flat portion at
the seam down the length of the gun barrel. My Jane's Armour and Artillery indicates that Syria and Afghanistan were
equipped with this piece. The instruction sheet says that it also saw action in Chechnya and the former Yugoslavia. I think
I have a display idea!
