This latest walk through the archives at Ft. Knox, Aberdeen Proving Grounds and FMC Corp is produced to the same high quality
of Hunnicutt's previous works. Loaded with illustrations photos and drawings it describes many types of vehicles (as the
title implies), such as: armored personnel carriers, landing vehicles, antitank vehicles and engineer vehicles. Many
variants of the M113 vehicle family are included. In fact, there is more M113 stuff than Bradley. There is even a brief
section on the Marine Corps vehicles LVTP-5, LVTP-7 and the new AAAV (still under development). Ideas for conversion or scratch-building
projects abound throughout the entire book. The chapter on the development of the Bradley IFV contains many photos
(several previously published) of the various versions. Page 297 has two photos of a Bradley with reactive armor attached.
I've had copies of these (provided by a generous individual at TACOM) for nearly eight years. There is a neat
little pair of illustrations of the ODS (Operation Desert Sabre) Bradley that show a missile countermeasures device mounted.
This was not mounted on the one I saw last year. Of more interest than the Bradley section to me is the information
on its kin, the AIFV. Great reference stuff here. Modellers will love Part VI, Active Service. Dozens of photos
are included which show the various vehicles mentioned in actual use. The possibilities are endless. Technical
information on many of the vehicles described in the book is tabulated in an appendix at the back. If you are
into AFV history and vehicle development, or just collect big expensive books (at $90.00 US, it's about $10.00 a pound), this
baby is for you. Below are two pictures you won't find in this book: the inside of the ODS version (top) and
the inside of the Bradley Stinger vehicle.
