March 2008

This month's meeting was particularly important, for it marked the end of the current executive's “turn at bat”. In the last two years, we have worked diligently to ensure that the club has a home, a presence on the Internet and isn't spiraling into debt. In this, we have been successful. I would like to thank the current Vice President, Lee Rehorn, and Treasurer, Stuart Clark, for all their hard work and dedication to the club in the past 24 months.

It's been fun, and I'm glad that we've had the chance to serve the membership. Hopefully, our time in office will be remembered as a good one, and no one will be burning any of us in effigy.

The first order of business was to determine who the new executive would be. The current executive provided a brief summary of what it is that we do, and encouraged the membership to step forward and help out.

It was pointed out that many of the membership have already served on the executive committee, and that now was an excellent time for those who had not yet helped out to take the chance to do so.

The new executive was determined to be:

President: Mario Morello
Vice-President: Peter Fay
Treasurer: Steve Salter

Congrats and thanks to these individuals. The next two years should be fun!

There have been two shows since our last meeting. The first was HeritageCon 2 in Hamilton , on the last weekend in February. The number of IPMS Londoners there was excellent, and the show went off very well. I think everyone who went was impressed.

The second was WellCOME, which was on the 8 th of March. Unfortunately, winter's icy grasp and terrible disposition caused many of us to miss this show. Apparently, there were only a few vendors there, and only about half the usual number of kits on the table. Even this is amazing, given the weather we had that day. Kudos to the few who braved the storm!

Our show is at approximately 30% sponsorship right now, with more on the way. Good work to all who've drummed up business; now we need to also start working on vendors!

There was a small show and tell table, including some unbuilt resin and plastic car kits, as well as a pair of nice WWII German armoured vehicles, a new ship kit and a book. In addition, Doug Booth has his Corgi Dambusters Lancaster on display; this was a prize he won at Hamilton ! Good job, Doug!

Next time: Doug Booth will discuss how to build display cases.

See you then!

Adam Rehorn, Ex-president
