February 2008
Meeting Minutes:
1.) The first order of business was our show. Scott Taylor brought out about 50 flyers, as well as some sponsorship packages. Members were encouraged to take them home and distribute them as they went.
2.) The second topic also dealt with our show, in particular an idea put forward by Dennis Glas. He proposed having everyone go through their stash and “Bring out their Dead” for the next meeting. The idea is for people to cull their stashes, and bring out kits that are complete, and not started, yet we know no one will likely build or buy. Why? To give as participation prizes to the junior entrants to the show in the fall! The goal is to ensure that every junior entrant gets a kit as a thank you for coming out to the show. The kits will be given out free to every junior entrant, providing we get enough kits with which to do this. We want to encourage the juniors to keep on building, and a free, relatively simple kit, seems like a good way to do this.
All members are encouraged to participate. At least 20 kits are expected to be required.
3.) Other shows were discussed, including Hamilton 's HeritageCon on the 24th of February, Torcan in Toronto on May 24th , and the WellCOME show on March 8th .
4.) Next meeting is the Elections for the IPMS London Executive. There are three positions to fill: President, Vice President and Treasurer. Members were encouraged to consider taking over from the current executive. Elections will be held at the BEGINNING of the next meeting.
5.) Next meeting is also Swap Meet Night. On top of “Bringing out your dead”, everyone should bring out the kits they want to sell and try to foist them off on their peers.
NOTE: Swap Night WILL NOT proceed until elections are SUCCESSFULLY completed! BE AWARE!
6.) There was a guest this evening, a fellow who was building a 1/1 scale SE.5a. He is doing it the colors of a local ace, a fellow from Rippley. Very interesting. We'll have to have a special display table for that at our show!
7.) Show and tell was EXCEPITONALLY busy, tonight. There were many built and unbuilt kits from all genres, including the ‘mystery' M4 Sherman that Adam missed multiple times. (Sorry to Ben Taylor.) We had planes, a robot, tanks, ships, civil war figures and the long-gestating recording vehicle that Duncan has been working on since forever.
8.) Lee gave a presentation on the skills needed to work on die cast metal replicas.
Next: Swap meet and Elections. BE THERE!
