February 2007

Meeting Minutes:

1.) The first item on the agenda was the cancellation of the WellCOME XI show this year. As can be seen from the posting on the club discussion board, this well-loved annual event has been scrubbed for this year.

Attempts were made by IPMS London to contact GPMG regarding possible assistance, but to no avail.

We wish them all the best in resurrecting this fine event next year!

2.) Continuing with show discussions, the HeritageCon show in Hamilton on Feb. 25 th was also discussed. A good contingent of IPMS Londoners is planning to attend. Please be aware that the guys in Hamilton are in need of assistance in judging.

A number of individuals expressed willingness to assist in this, and their support is appreciated.

HeritageCon is also taking donations for the "Kits for Kandahar" drive. If you've got a donation, be sure to take it with you!

3.) Dues are still being collected. We currently have 22 paid members, and for those who have dues outstanding, we will begin collecting the $5/month if you don't pay next month.

A question was raised regarding children. Anyone under 16 is welcome to join the club free. This is for all minors, not just relatives of club members.

On anther note, the memberships paid this far have basically covered the room rental for the year.

4.) Recently, I received an email from the Rocky Mountain Model Club advertising their show on May 12, 2007, in Calgary. A request for sponsorship was included. However, due to the distance from us of said show, the decision was made not to extend sponsorship.

We'll save our sponsorship allowance for local shows, such as Borden, Hamilton, Ottawa, Ajax and whatever else comes up.

5.) A decision was made to book the big room for all of 2008 as soon as possible. The president said that he would get on it, probably as early as next week.

6.) Our show was discussed. Additional sponsorships have been acquired, which is great news. Also, the decisions about our awards have been made, and now the work of gathering additional sponsors/vendors begins.

The show website is functional, although only has a link to the flyer. This should be changing soon, I'm told.

Apparently, Ottawa's show is the same day as ours, but neither group expects to draw traffic from the other's crowds. Let us hope so, and wish our brothers and sisters in the nation's capital all the best with their endeavours!

7.) There was little progress on the idea of a demonstration at the Westmount library, since Dennis wasn't here this week. However, someone mentioned that four dates (the last two weeks of April, first two of May) were being considered.

Keep it in mind, and we'll try to firm something up next time. This is something that could really benefit the club, and is worth doing!

8.) This month's show-and tell table, like the turnout, was quite small due to Valentine's Day and the weather. The biggest item on the table was the Italeri 1/35 80' PT boat, and the smallest was a Gundam figure in 1/20. There were some aircraft as well

9.) Doug Booth and Dave Walter gave an excellent presentation on waterlining ships and 'building' your own water, either using DAS modelling clay or "Podge", which seems to be some kind of thick 'white glue'. It was very interesting, and has great potential for use in a number of different situations, not limited to watercraft alone! Many thanks to the guys for their hard work!

Next Time: Mario Morello will discuss the wonders of Bare Metal Foil!

See you then!
