July 2006

1.) The first item this month was to discuss the creation of a simple Club Charter. This would lay out simple guide for keeping the club on an even keel. The most important aspect is that the club would seek to retain a year’s operating expenses (web and room rental, pizza party and barbecue payments) in its account.

This was put to a vote and passed.

Stuart Clark agreed to draft the Charter sometime in the near future.

2.) Shirts were discussed once again. The price quoted by Bobby McCaughrin was $11.50, and a few more people signed up for shirts on the impromptu signup sheet.

Next month will be the final date for signing up for shirts. After this, we will send the orders out with Bobby. The club will be paying for each paid member to get a T-shirt (or giving the equivalent amount towards a golf shirt), so all members are encouraged to sign up or email your shirt type (golf/T), size and colour to the President (agrehorn@uwo.ca) so he can collate this information.

3.) After much debate on the Internet, the way in which IPMS London makes use of its extra money has been decided upon! (Can you believe it?) The following was proposed and ratified.

a. Sponsor of 4 x $25 awards at shows. Apparently, we get solicited quite a bit, so the ‘first come first serve’ approach will be used first. However, local candidates such as WellCOME, Ajax and others were considered as logical choices.

b. T-Shirts. As mentioned in #2 (above), the club will be paying for a T-shirt (or the equivalent amount to a T-shirt, but put towards a Golf Shirt) for each currently paid-up member. Thus, be sure to get your info in for next month, so we can get them ordered!

c. A trial run of 4 x $25 gift certificates as prizes for 50/50 draws. It is hoped that in the future these prizes will pay for themselves. If they do not, then the project can be dropped at any time.

d. A set of 3 x $15 gift certificates as prizes for Model Jeopardy night.

These ideas were all accepted, and will be moving forward in the coming months. Stuart Clark graciously agreed to make the rounds to each of London’s four Hobby Shops to pick up the certificate.

4.) Website submission encouragement was also discussed. An idea was put forward that everyone who submits to the webpage would get 50/50 tickets as a thank you for their submission. Someone contributing a modelling article, review, reference article or large picture post (walkarounds, museum reviews, etc.) will get three tickets per article submitted in the last month, while those submitting pictures to their personal galleries will get one ticket per picture.

A maximum of ten tickets per month was proposed.

The idea was discussed and ratified.

5.) Our show was discussed. Dave Guertin presented a list of key positions that are required to set up and run the show. These were discussed, and volunteers were solicited. Dave Guertin volunteered to chair the show, and Anthony Goodman volunteered to look after sponsorships. Stuart Clark agreed to help with the finances.

Unfortunately, Dave’s circumstances are not entirely known for the period up to the show, and he may or may not be here, by his own admission. Thus, we are going to need a volunteer for Co-Chair. Scott Taylor and Paul Bird have indicated they will assist as well.

HOWEVER… overall response from the club was quite lackluster. We need to have a lot more people willing to help out, and FOLLOW THROUGH, if we are going to run a good show without unfairly imposing on others (see last show for details…).

If there are not enough people who volunteer to help by the end of next meeting, then the show WILL be shelved for 2007, and put forth again later as a 2008 show.

6.) A good show and tell table with a variety of kits was presented, as always. There was an interesting mix of all genres on display, both in built, semi-built and unbuilt form.

7.) Our monthly seminar series continued with Scott Taylor delivering a multimedia presentation on Armour Modelling (download the handouts at the bottom of this page). It was interesting to see just how quickly an ‘out of box’ build can escalate into an avalanche of reference and aftermarket buying! (No wonder I build FROGs!)

Next Time:

Our monthly seminars will continue with a presentation on automotive modelling, and the show will be further discussed. All that plus the usual show and tell, 50/50 and post-meeting meeting at Kelsey’s.
