May Meeting & June Notice

Hello everyone,

The May Meeting was our first attempt at adding digital video media to the club. We tested podcasting equipment as well as a DSLR camera. Future plans include videos of presentations and demonstrations and possible availability of full meeting video for our members who cannot make it to the live meeting. More about this in upcoming meetings.

The Show and Tell section of the meeting contained many examples of models that received recognition for excellence at the Torcan Model Show. IPMS London was well represented at the show and many members came home with medals. Congratulations to all the winners as well as all that entered models in the contest.

We had a guest (David Phair) from the Sarnia Area Scale Modelers Group. Dave brought a selection of his modeling work for the Show and Tell. Some very nice examples of that branch of the hobby.

The Theme Content of this meeting was “Master Panel” where members brought forward their questions to a panel of the clubs master builders. This was well received with many interesting questions and insightful answers. Thank you very much to the panel.

The JUNE Meeting will be at 7pm, Wednesday June 14TH at Earl Nichols Recreation Centre Meeting Hall. The venue is located at 799 Homeview Road in London. To all those bringing models for the show and tell section of the meeting, they will be displayed as usual on the center tables for all to inspect and appreciate, but there will be no formal review of the table as we will be tight for time due to the programme content of the show.

PROGRAM CONTENT: This months programme will be a demonstration of weathering techniques that will include, but not be limited to, the Hairspray Technique of Micro Chipping. This demonstration will be given by Dave Browne who is acknowledged around the world as a Master Model Builder and also the proud owner of an excellent hobby store located in the GTA. Dave will be bringing a small selection of products with him so anyone interested in purchasing please bring cash.

Hope to see you there!

April Meeting & March Notice

Hello everyone,

The April meeting was our first night at the new venue (Earl Nichols Recreation Centre). Increased size was much appreciated and it was agreed that this venue worked well for our needs.

Jeffery Hodgins brought a beautiful collection of cars in memory of his good friend and mentor Jacob Wilson.

The Annual Swap Meet was held and I noticed a lot of kits going to new homes. Unfortunately I may have led the pack in purchases LOL.

We had a new Member sign up as well as some very welcome visitors.

The May Meeting will be at 7pm, TUESDAY May 9TH at Earl Nichols Recreation Centre Meeting Hall. The venue is located at 799 Homeview Road in London.

THEME: Masters Session. A panel of “Subject Matter Experts” will be available to answer questions and hopefully help solve your modelling problems.

Hope to see you there!

March Meeting & April Notice

Thanks to everyone that made it to the March meeting. We had another fantastic turnout and filled the hall to capacity. Looking forward to the new meeting hall next month.

The display table was covered with fantastic models brought in by our membership. Pictures of some of models are already available on the Facebook site in an album and I will be adding a post in the webpage forum today that will make them available for non-Facebook members.

The Theme for the meeting was JUDGING PANEL and several members brought their models in to be scrutinized by our panel of judges. A huge thanks to the members that volunteered to share there expertise and knowledge by acting as judges for the panel. Also thanks to all the members that brought in their models for review. Everything was kept very positive and informative, not only for the members who entered models but for everyone in attendance. A great deal of positive criticism was shared by the judges and I believe everyone took many ideas back to their workbenches in order to bring their works up to a more competitive level.

The April Meeting will be at 7pm, TUESDAY April 11TH at Earl Nichols Recreation Centre Meeting Hall. The venue is located at 799 Homeview Road in London. I will attach a Google Map link to the centre at the bottom of the post. I understand that many changes of dates and locations may be causing some confusion with the membership but this should come to an end in the next two months as we settle into our new location.

THEME: ANNUAL SWAP MEET, so be sure to thin your overstocked kit stash and bookshelves and bring all the goodies to sell. REMEMBER TO BRING LOTS OF CASH!!!!!

Hope to see you there!
